My ancestors and possibly yours considered north America to be turtle island. The story around it contains many animals, a turtle and an otter. There are many different turtles depicted among indigenous people. Ours is generally round with clan symbols on the shell and proportional legs and head. The one depicted here is a Sioux Turtle and on this piece it is traveling from a star and back to a star. The suns light guides his path and the other colors represent the sky, green of the forest and medicine on the shell. The black border reminds us that our existence here is contained held together by the transition and eventual return.
How are you all doing? Maybe I should have all of you tell me what you have been doing since new years. Since I live in a time vacuum and you all have a 4 second attention span (according to someones statistics), I have already written too much. In same study they claim the Goldfeesh has a 9 second attention span. So get yourself a Goldfeesh, put it in a bowl and stare at it as long as it stares back at you. Easy way to increase your attention span. Simple solution, or as I have heard said, elegant!
Since our last meeting, I have been raku firing, dreaming and selling what I have made. Also since last meeting it has gone from snow to 100 degrees as of yesterday. The animals are doing fine so all is well. I would add a few pictures at this point but I have not been doing that either. We did have another Hummingbird nest that hatched out 2 little birds. Took some pictures of them but they are on phone and I am currently on the computer so that does not work out too good.
Here is something you may enjoy. These Eagle whistle dances were not to be recorded in the past, but I guess things have changed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaoilEZ7GLU
Do not forget to thank our ancestors for what we have and visit powWows.com
The storm has missed but there are still many clouds over us. The chance of rain has me doing more sitting and thinking than attempting any outside activity. I like sitting and thinking anyway. Besides, the humidity is up out of our usual single digits and it is just plain uncomfortable.
I was out in the shop earlier working on a new beaded wheel for another spirit traveler or maybe to put with a feather. With this wheel I am trying to show how we start out in balance and harmony, drift outward away form our selves, fall out of balance and then return to it in the end. As I was beading, I was thinking about how as a young boy I learned that everything related to the circle. Day and night, the seasons, even life itself is a circle from start to finish to start. The drum is a circle, we sit in a circle to give the drum life. The drum then becomes the heart beat of the village. We dance in a circle around the drum. The circle holds the family, clan and tribe together as well as protects us. I will show this wheel to you when it is done. Maybe you can feel the imbalance come as it goes to the end and the balance again and the edge comes to hold it all together. In the mean time, here is one of the best hoop dancers you will see. Circles are becoming a theme today
The colors of my wheel are yellow in the center for the sun, light blue for the sky, dark blue for the water, brown for the earth that provides for us, turquoise for the morning and evening of our light. It is all held together by the outer band of turquoise. I feel better knowing it is with me all the time.
Strange illusion we are in. In the last post I explained how Midnight has gone to be with his ancestors. A funny thing must have happened during his trip out of the illusion and home. My lovely wife, Crazy Cat Woman was in the kitchen when she shouted for me to come in there. It takes me a while to get up from my chair anymore so she always shouts “hurry”. For some reason this “hurry” sounded a bit more urgent than usual, so I hurried. Out by Huey`s dinner plate, but in this case breakfast, was a black cat. Spooked her a bit maybe, because it did me. The cat hid under the big table and then took off. It has been here on and off for a week now and is cleaning up food I place out in the shop. This one has a little white fleck on its chest and is all black as far as we can see. One distinguishing feature though is that it can say me and ow together. Our ancestors must have felt bad about having Midnight come home to be with them and sent us “Snow Flake”. I guess I can take down the “shop cat needed” sign now, for a while anyway.
